Supporting IDF Soldiers as they
Prepare for Life After Service
For many combat and combat support soldiers, particularly those from minority communities or low socioeconomic backgrounds, completing military service is followed by a difficult transition, where the cost of higher education and the time required to pursue it make continued study hard to afford.
Working in coordination with the IDF and the Israeli Ministry of Defense, American Friends of LIBI enables eligible soldiers to pursue higher education and make meaningful contributions to their communities during and after their service.

Through the Association for Israel’s Soldiers’ Shaping the Future initiative, launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense and the Edmond de Rothschild Foundation, LIBI USA supports eligible combat and combat support soldiers pursuing higher education at Council for Higher Education–approved institutions. Each participant receives a generous living stipend per academic year, with additional support in applicable cases. As part of the program, participants complete 90 hours of community service per year, supporting academic continuity alongside civic involvement after service.
Educational and Learning Spaces
Access to education also depends on having appropriate physical environments that nurture consistent, focused learning. LIBI USA supports the construction and renewal of educational facilities and recreation rooms used by IDF soldiers in service and recovery settings. These spaces make it possible for soldiers to pursue education while serving, helping them go on to fill professional, leadership, and civic roles across Israeli society.
